Billy Ray Neel of El Campo died November 23, 2013 at the age of 82. He was born on September 30, 1931 in Overton, Texas to the late Homer Lee and Lenny Billington Neel. He was a 101st Airborne Paratrooper for the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, served 2 deployments to Korea and had served under General MacArthur. Neel was a district supervisor for SW Bell Telephone Company, retiring after 43 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 251, Coast Guard Auxiliary, member of the Masons, and a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor.
He is survived by his daughter Denise Hlavaty and husband Larry of Hillje; sons Lonnie Neel and wife Leigh Ann of El Campo, Billy G. Neel and wife Carla of Austin, and Troy Neel of Port Villa Vanuatu; companion Diane Buetel of El Campo; grandchildren Angie, Cade, Heather, Lanise, Chance, Larissa, Collin, Carson, Ella, and Axelle; great-grandchildren Halling, Everett, Amelia, and Weston; and brother Tommy Neel and wife Mollie of Lake Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma Jean Neel, and son Dennis Neel.
Visitation will begin Monday at 2 pm at Triska Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 pm to 7 pm. Funeral services will be 2 pm Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Triska Funeral Home with Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Honorary pallbearers are Hank Bradley, Charles Stranton, Randy Clapp and Curtis Clapp.
Memorial donations in memory of Billy R. Neel may be made to Houston Hospice-El Campo.
