Joe L. Cerny Jr., 82, of El Campo was called to heaven on Saturday April 5, 2014. He was born on June 27, 1931 in Shiner, Texas to the late Joe and Rosie Cerny. Joe married Gladys Herzik on September 29, 1952. Together they raised four children, Patrick, Cynthia, Kenneth, and Glen. Joe was a lifetime farmer and had a love for the land. He loved gardening. He wanted to plant a garden in El Campo this week, but now he will have a beautiful garden in heaven. Joe loved to go to deer camp with his family. Hunting, cooking breakfast, and driving the Kubota tractor were some of the things he liked to do there. Joe was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of St. Philips Catholic Church, American Legion Post 251, and S.P.J.S.T.. Survivors include his wife Gladys Herzik Cerny of El Campo, daughter Cynthia Hickl and husband Ronald of El Maton, sons Patrick Cerny and wife Shelly, Kenneth Cerny and wife Mary Ann, and Glen Cerny and wife Yvonne all of El Campo, brother Alfred Cerny and wife Cathy of El Campo, 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and one on the way due in may. Also survived by niece Jeanne Elder and nephew Donald Cerny. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 8 at 12 noon at Triska Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 9 at 10 am at St. Philips Catholic Church with Rev Michael Rother officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 251.Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.Memorial donations in memory of Joe L. Cerny Jr. may be made to donors choice.The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, food, flowers and memorial donations. May god bless each of you. We the family take great comfort in knowing that Joe's mother, who died 14 years ago April 4, 2000, was calling him home on the anniversary of her death. May he rest in peace
