Melvin Anton Brandl, 72 of Hillje, passed away April 18, 2014. He was born on February 8, 1942 in El Campo to Willie and Evelyn Sohrt Brandl. Melvin was a 1962 Louise High School graduate and worked for several years at Wharton County Electric Co-op. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego and various ships at sea, including spending a year on the island of Iwo Jima.

He is survived by his wife Gay Hoffman, brother Bill Brandl of Houston, two aunts Henrietta Brandl Jemelka and Mary Bilek Sohrt and numerous cousins.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and brother Norman Brandl.

Visitation will be from 5 -7 pm on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Triska Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 9:45 am on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hillje. Funeral services will be immediately after at 10 am with the Reverend Clement Quainoo officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Terry Brandl, Tommy Brandl, Donald Sohrt, Gus Sohrt, Allen Sohrt and Mike Pierce.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Andrew's Catholic Church.
