Walter L. Taylor, 84 of El Campo, passed away May 11, 2014. He was born on July 22, 1929 in El Campo to Arthur and Agnes Skrovan Taylor. Walter was a housing contractor for 50 years before retiring. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2490 and the St. Philip Picnic Building Committee for many years. Walter was an avid fisherman and loved polka music.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Albina Popp Taylor; daughters Paula Clark and husband Richard, Donna Merta and husband Chris, all of El Campo; son Randy Taylor and wife Cecilia of Pflugerville; son-in-law Calvin Pfeil of El Campo; grandchildren Adam and Tammy Pfeil, Jeff and Julie Pfeil, Staci Pfeil, Travis and Cassie Clark, Stephanie and Glen Jamerson, Celeste Clark and Trenton Socha, Greg and Brianne Thompson, Patrick and Monica Thompson, Elizabeth Taylor, Danielle Taylor, Melanie and Michael Porter, Tim and Mindy Merta, and Derek and Brooke Merta; great-grandchildren Kami Pfeil, Brady Pfeil, Lucas Pfeil, Justin Pfeil, Bailey Clark, Austine Clark, Trey Clark, Tyler Jamerson, Faith Thompson, Kylie Thompson, Layla Thompson, Layndon Thompson, Shelton Thompson, Keaton Thompson, Abigail Porter, Sophie Porter, Harrison Porter, Makala Merta, and Anna Merta; great-great-grandchild Riley Pfeil, and brother Robert Taylor of Kemp.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Doris Pfeil, brothers Alfred and Arthur Taylor Jr., sisters Annie Erdelt Hubenak and Hattie Lutringer.

Visitation will be from 12 - 5 pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Triska Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7 pm at St. Philip Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at St. Philip Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Rother officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Adam Pfeil, Jeff Pfeil, Travis Clark, Glen Jamerson, Timothy Merta, Derek Merta, Michael Porter, Greg Thompson and Patrick Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Tammy Pfeil, Julie Pfeil, Staci Pfeil, Cassie Clark, Stephanie Jamerson, Celeste Clark, Trenton Socha, Melanie Porter, Mindy Merta, Brooke Merta, Elizabeth Taylor, Danielle Taylor, Brianne Thompson, Monica Thomson, Dusty Roades, his great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson.
