Lorene Marie Lanier, 80 of Garwood, passed away on January 18, 2013 after a lenghty battle with cancer. She was born on September 6, 1932 in Vox Populi, Tx to the late Joseph John and Delta Louise Wied Mendell. She was retired from Rice Consolidated where she worked as the school secretary at Garwood School for 32 years. Lorene was a member of the Lehrer United Methodist Church in Garwood.

Mrs. Lanier is survived by her husband of 60 years M.G. Lanier of Garwood; sons Terrell Lanier and wife Dixie of Weston Lakes, Michael Lanier and wife Paula of Garwood; daughter Kelli Cook and husband Wes of El Campo; 5 grandchildren, Michelle Vidallia and husband Seth of Erath,LA, Alyson Hoffman and husband Kevin of Matthews, J.T. Lanier of Austin, Jared Cook of El Campo and Dylan Cook of El Campo; 2 great grandchildren, Conner Vidallia of Erath, LA and Wade Hoffman of Matthews; and sister Carol Rasmussen and husband Chester of Wharton.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7PM at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Monday at 2 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Tom Lanier and Rev. Ron Shott officiating. Burial will follow at Lehrer Memorial Cemetery in Garwood.

Pallbearers will be Mark Wied, Bill Hefner, Brad Engstrom, Mitchell Smith, Kevin Hoffman, Seth Vidallia, Ken Danklefs, and Chris Rasmussen.
Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Lanier may be made to Garwood Volunteer Fire Department, Lehrer Memorial United Methodist Church, or MD Anderson Research.

Lorene will be remebered for her love of cooking, visiting with friends, and her unending devotion to her family.
